Wednesday Assignment

This writing deals with very emotional aspects of ones mind and how they are dealt with and healed through writing. Writing is a very powerful healing tool. Like me many and many of my peers there is something that is very special about writing. Writing gives you the opportunity to take your emotions and thoughts and pour it on to a peace of paper. Writing gives a person the chance to express there inner thoughts and let the voices of their soul speak.
Hurricane Katrina was a very tragic Disaster that changes the leave lives of the people in New Orleans and the relatives of the people who were affected by this natural disaster. The listening tells us about an aunt and nieces who were temporarily split apart during the hurricane and later relocated in Houston after the hurricane passed. This was a very emotional and heart warming listening. It lets us know that we should be grateful for what we have, because many people did not make it out of that disaster alive.
My initial reaction to passage was that it was very plausible. I say that this reading was factual because it has worked for me. When I was younger and something would upset or stress me I would just write about it and I would achieve this preeminent feeling.
After listening to story of the two hurricane Katrina victims, I was filled with sentimentalism. Hurricane Katrina left a lot of people homeless and with no where to turn. This was truly a catastrophic disaster and will be remembered. I can only imagine what the survivors must feel. Its best put into words by a victim "trying to climb a ladder with tie hands".
I have a couple questions about the passage. Was therapeutic writing used back in the days of the Anglo Saxons? How was this type of writing discovered? Was a survey ever taken of people who have written a memoir and been heal?
What was the total number of lives lost in New Orleans because of Katrina? Were the effects of Katrina more psychological than physical? Did the celebrities from the area help with the reconstruction of New Orleans?

Your question about the Anglo-Saxons rocks! I would say that the anglo-saxons did not so much write as they told stories through the oral tradition. Great question!

I think the way you reacted to the passage and the audio was great. And i love the way how you put out there that you wrote your own "memoirs" as a child when something upset you. I can really relate to that. I think it's great that you can relate to that. And with the hurrican victims, I love the quote you ended with. It really summed up what Antoinette and Iriel were saying in their audio. And I think you did a really good job of summarizing both things. And with your questions, I really like them, especially about when was this writing discovered. All in all, you did a really good job :D

I absolutely loved your question regarding the celebrities of New Orleans and if they helped with the after math of the hurricane! To be honest I don't know the answer, but I really doubt that any of them helped. I am actually going to research that just for my own personal knowledge and try to find out if anyone did assist in the clean up. I also totally agree with your thoughts on memoir writing. I write when I'm upset or happy and either way it rejuvenates me and fils me with a sense of peace. Memoir writing is a tool everyone should take advantage of. Another pro to writing memoirs is that you will always be able to remember or read back on what you wrote. A lot of things in life, we as humans forget about or just black out. Sometimes that is a good thing, but most of the time it is important to remember all aspects of our lives. Well, I think you had some great points Jevon and your summarizing skill is awesome!! I enjoyed reading your blog :)
